Yambol is not the prettiest City in Bulgaria, but it does have a unique character which is now in the process of being captured by camera. What you see now in Yambol will be short lived in a world of change, especially with the EU strangling the heart and soul of Bulgaria's culture with directives and uniform regulations.

Weather for Cement in Yambol
The work is still going on with this massive complex right in the centre of Yambol town. It is a case of non stop building right now as the weather is just right for laying cement right now. Not too hot not too cold!

Yambol's St Nikolai's Church
This an another view from a different angle of Yambol's St Nikolai's Church. This church is so photogenic whatever side of the church a snap is taken it makes a good postcard picture. I may ask my neighbour the priest is I can take a few pictures inside the church to publish.

The 'Bulgarian' Sun
I know the sun is seen all over the world, expect the UK apparently this year. But today looking up warming my face was the 'Bulgarian sun as warm as ever this glorious weather in September. Most Bulgarian's try and hide from it in the summer, apart from lapping it up on the Black Sea.

A Lonely Yambol Gadulka Musician
This man is quite often here next to the small park it the town centre. The music is traditional and appreciated by passing Bulgarian folk. I think the instrument he is playing is a gadulka fiddle, which just adds another Bulgarian dimension walking through Yambol town. He always gets enough to feed his family after an hour or two.

Bazaar Shops
The cobblestone road leading into Yambol's lower bazaar. No parking problems here ever as people just use their vechiles to pick up and drop of stuff. There's not enough business to warrant traffic jams here.

Land Rover Police Car
As menitoned before, there are no Lada Police cars in Yambol anymore. As I passed the Police station car park today I see a Land Rover Police car. It may be an old model 'County' Land Rover but this is an up and coming police force now it seems.

Yambol Back Street
Just out of the main centre of Yambol are many back street, residential areas that are cobbleslone roads. Many of the houses there that used to be single dwellings have been converted into apartments. Initially this was for their own families, but increasing to rent or sell.

Yambol Apartment Block
Another closer look at an apartment block I pass every day. Each apartment is treasured home nowadays in Yambol as they are unaffordable to most Bulgarian first time buyers.

Yambol For Pedestrians
Another picture of an area of Yambol where this walkway or boulevard is entirely dedicated for pedestrians. Many Bulgarian families use this for an evening walk after school and work. A ideal meeting place right next to the town centre park.

Hand Painted Taxi Rank Sign
This sign telling us that there is room for three taxis on this rank is hand painted. Most of the traffic signs are done this way but there is now a movement quite evident brought in from Europe that all signs are to be replaced with Internationally standardised road signs. What a shame. The Bulgarian character and individualism is slowly eroding from the inclusion of the EU.

New Colourful Shops
New colourful shops are making more of a presence in new Yambol. This one is a sportswear/fashion shop. It is so new that the wood used for the concrete supports are still lying on the ground outside the fence. Just a couple of years ago the colour schemes in new building would have been just grey or white!

This is something you don't see very often in Yambol, shiny new dustbins. I had to put my sunglasses on as I went past with the glare.

Yambol Park
This is the entrance to the Yambol town centre park. The two ornaments just set it off nicely. The park is well used by all gernations of Bulgarian and no vandalism anywhere to be seen, with a drinking water fountain always working there in the centre of the park.

Yambol Cattle Statues
A prominant sight on the main through road are the cattle statues. They are bulls and another emblem of Yambol to do with 'big eating'. 'Yambol' actually means 'eat (yam) big (bol)'

This just caught the eye in Yambol this morning. A well worn Lada emblem and rear indicator lights. This Lada car is at least 20 years old and still retains the charactor.

Ataka Headquarter in Yambol
Mr. Volen Siderov, a Yambol man, is the leader of Ataka, the Bulgarian Nationalist Party. Their headquarters are in the centre of Yambol town. Their campaign is to protect Bulgaria from the gypies and the Turks. Many non-Nationalist supporters believe that the party is made up of criminals and killers.

So many water fountains are in Yambol but I have never seen any of them work until today. It makes a big difference as I walked past, but cost money which is why they were turned off weren't maintained. Money is now rolling into Yambol hopefully this particular water fountain the first of many that will be working.

Completed last year, the supermarket Billa and the white goods store Technomarket based on the first floor are now trading. This is situated 1 kilometre down the Sliven road on the bank of the beautiful Tundzha river. The ever increasing blots on the Yambol landscape. This complex incidently is where the first ever public escalator was installed.

The Japanese company Yazaki based in Yambol around 4 km on the Sliven road. They produce Renault car parts. Yazaki employs over 2000 local Bulgarians and Galia's son is one of them. This picture was taken as I took him there and dropped him off this morning.

Yambol Block 8
Apartment blocks are a regular site in Yambol, a number is assigned and put on the side of each block so you know which block is which. This picture obviously shows apartment block number 8. Being numbered this way in typical Bulgarian style, somehow personally I think it's a better system than all this patronisation and calling them names like 'Nelson Mandela Block'.

Still in the town of Yambol, but just on the outskirts is the River Tundzha. Here you see many Bulgarian people fishing before and after work. The wildlife here is also little know, but for me a major distraction when driving past.
