More Modern Bicycles in Yambol

Being a great fan of bicycles and cycling I have noticed that there are more and more  modern bicycles being ridden in Yambol. This is a typical model that frequents the many potholed roads of Yambol. not too sure about the saddle position though.

The Great Inventor John Atanasoff - A Yambol Man

John Atanasoff a Yambol man was famously credited with inventing the first electronic digital computer. His bust is next to the posh Diana Hotel.

Still Old Public Pay Phones in Yambol

In this modern day and ages of mobile phones the old fashion pay phones are a rare sight, but they are still in Yambol. What's more it has not be vandalised! A waste bin is also there which I might add is used as you can see.

Yambol's Colourful Lucky Land Store -

This was taken inside Yambol's Lucky Land Store where, I have to admit, I don;t think I've been in a more colourful and bright shop. The items are cheap and you pay per Kilogram so naturally you see folk weighing up things before committing to buy as we did with a couple of plastic potted foliage to brighten up our home.

Where's the Yambol Angler?

Walking along the Tundzha River I noted an absent angler. Guess he was on a toilet break. Could have quite easily taken his place and fished all day. Love the little plastic stool with a hand knitted cover, no doubt made by a Bulgarian Baba.

Yambol's Fire Brigade on Alert

Fire engines ready and raring to go in this season of forest fires. The doors are open all day to save time right now.

Joro, A Small Yambol Convenience Store

This small Yambol convenience store is called Joro after the owner. It is frequently used and Bulgarian owned and run. Unfortunately the owner Joro died recently, you can see the poster reminding us of this on the window. The other beauty about this is it still holds the tradition of not opening on Sunday! We will still continue to call the shop Joro.

My Local Greengrocer Store in Yambol

This is my local Greengrocer shop in Yambol selling mainly fruit and vegetable but has other goodies including freshly squeezed juice made on site. The staff are always polite and helpful making a visit to shop there a pleasure. Just love small family shops such as these in Yambol.

Big Yellow Recycling Bins in Yambol

You will find a growing amount of big yellow recycling bins in Yambol now. This one is closest to my home. The local council finally caught on to what the Gypsies here have been doing for decades, collecting and selling on used material. Notice the point of entry which is made just small enough to stop pilfering from the bin.

A Very Old Coca Cola Advertisement in Yambol

In the Diana area of Yambol I just detected a very old Coca Cola advertisement. It must have been there for decades presumably the corrugated iron was part of a retail business that sold it. Well, no such place on this site anymore.

Graffiti Statement in Yambol - A Mystery to Most

There are lots of graffiti in Yambol, most are statements easily understood, but this one has me baffled. Guess to many it makes sense, namely to those who composed it and their circles. Not a fan of graffiti by any means, but have to live with it in this day and age.

Directions to Yambol's War Museum

220 metres ahead you will find Yambol's War Museum (Officially called Museum of Battle Glory) located as clearly seen from direction given on this sign. Nice little motif on the sign as well giving the finishing touch. If you want a tour watch this -  Museum of Battle Glory

Yambol's Raiffeisen Bank

This is the Raiffeisen Bank in Yambol which looks new and tidy enough. In fact this is my Bank which I am not too happy about as they charge you for deposits and withdrawals from my own account - IT'S MY MONEY FOR GOD'S SAKE! Don't have much choice as all the banks have conspired to do the same here.

Wheelchair Access in Yambol

There are many provisions made for wheeled vehicle access in Yambol. Mainly for buggies, prams and wheelchairs. That's great, unless of course a car blocks the access which I often see in this particular place. 

Yambol's Business College

Yambol has many Education facilities and schools, this is one of them, their own Business College just off Dimitar Blagoev Street. A nice, new, bright sign for all to see.

GERB and Mafia Links in Yambol

There must be a reason why whenever I see graffiti of the main Bulgarian Political Party GERB, it is accompanied by mafia associations. This is a typical example with the GERB in black and Mafia Dept. in red above the door. 

Easycredit Fly Sticker Advertising Wherever You Go In Yambol

Wherever you go in Yambol you will see fly stickers advertising Easycredit.  This is just typical of the sites and places they are found. The need for credit is every strong in Yambol with recent statistics showing poverty in Bulgaria at around 35% of the population. 

A Car With Clashing Colours Parked Up in Yambol

Not quite sure of the taste of this car parked up in Yambol, but it caught my eye with the clashing of colours. Not standard colours by any means. Someone loves it!

A Yambol Zebra Crossing on Dimitar Blagoev Street

There are many Zebra Crossing on Yambol Streets, some are black and white others are red and white, this is the latter. With warning to look before you cross they are well adhered to by many Yambol drivers, but not all.

Caught sight of a delivery van at on of Yambol's Vilton Stores in the Diana area stocking up supplies which are regularly shopped for by locals, myself included. The Vilton shops are Bulgarian owned and run which is quite refreshing in view of German Supermarket dominance from Lidl, Kaufland and Billa in Yambol,

Yambol's Borovets Bus Shelter

This is Yambol's Borovets bus shelter which is quite modern in comparison with the environment in which it stands. It is unusual not to see anyone waiting for a bus as on this occasion.

A Mini Bazaar in Yambol's Borovets Area

This mini bazaar in in Yambol's Borovets area. It is made up of local Yambol folk selling their own home produced fruit and vegetables. Much fresher than anywhere else in Yambol and at a better price! Better get the early as they are usually gone by lunchtime.

This tower block int he Borovets are of Yambol never fails to dominate my attention with an imposing nature. I quite often frequent the shops on the ground level though, especially the friendly greengrocer on the right hand side

A Yambol Road Sign for Drunk Drivers

A Yambol road sign for drunk drivers was seen recently. As you can seem the sign is not damaged, it was erected at that angle. The only other reasoning is that the erectors of the sign were drunk!

Another Yambol Credit Bank Invades

This used to be a Greengrocer shop and now a Credit Bank which invading and threatening to dominate Yambol right now. Very much the fashion to get credit for things Bulgarian need, but more serious for things they want.

If you know Yambol, you will know where this watering place is. In the grounds of St Nikolai Church in the City Centre. Pity it is not operative especially in this hot summer we are experiencing here.

Lovely Cakes in Yambol's Kaufland Supermarket

Every time we got to Kaufland, which to be quite honest is very rare, we find it difficult to pass the cake shop as we leave. We have been tempted on a few occasions to have a slice with a strong coffee to get over the experience of shopping here. As you can tell I'm not keen on shopping in Kaufland.
