Hand painted road sign in Yambol are one of the great pleasures that I get in walking the streets. I know that very soon they will all disappear and become EU uniform and official. This one has a nice little tractor and bus draw both of which are not allowed on this route. As I stood and took this picture a BMV sped past me at well over 40 Kmph! Naughty but common on Yambol roads, even with massive pot holes.
Yambol is not the prettiest City in Bulgaria, but it does have a unique character which is now in the process of being captured by camera. What you see now in Yambol will be short lived in a world of change, especially with the EU strangling the heart and soul of Bulgaria's culture with directives and uniform regulations.

A Yambol Signposted Tree

If there is something that really does make me feel happy about Yambol it is the hand painted signs that are put up giving directions to shops and other complexes. This one is pointing to a shoe shop that also gives a repair service situated in apartment block 15. Somehow it just feels right nailed to a tree.

Old Yambol Log Truck Newly Painted

This is a Yambol log truck that I found parked on a side street. It had been recently hand painted and looked like new although it may well be some 20 plus years old. It had been used for learner drivers looking at the blue ‘Y’ sign on the right hand side of the bumper. I just love the character of these trucks, which bump along when they are empty and roll along when topped up with the log winter fuel. The truck looks very happy with the bright new paintwork and smile.

Hand Painted Bus Stop
I just love the complete simplisity of a Yambol bus stop. Again, another example of hand painted signs that are put on the road. Everyone that uses it is local and know the bus times so no need for additional information to be put on.365bulgarianadventures

Hand Painted Taxi Rank Sign
This sign telling us that there is room for three taxis on this rank is hand painted. Most of the traffic signs are done this way but there is now a movement quite evident brought in from Europe that all signs are to be replaced with Internationally standardised road signs. What a shame. The Bulgarian character and individualism is slowly eroding from the inclusion of the EU.365bulgarianadventures
