Another walk in Yambol's City Park and another joyous view of the fountain seen on full power. Luckily it wasn't indy so I didn't get soaked passing which happens on occasion. This is one of the most photographed spots in the park.

Obesity is an increasing problem worldwide in Western Society and Yambol is no exception. Proof of this is seen in this broken bench that seemingly couldn't take the weight of a person. Fast Food is to blame.
Saturday, 20 October 2018
The smell of roasting peppers has invaded Yambol which reminds you that it is the pepper season. Every family has a pnag for these delicious vegetables and Yambol's market stall are flooded with them to cope with demand. Of course most are cooked and preserved for the coming Winter and Spring as we do each year.
Friday, 19 October 2018
there are many second hand clothing shops in Yambol and they thrive with business from folk who can''t afford new clothing. Here is another one. I like this one as I can sit on the wall outside in the shade and wait for my partner who frequents the place.
Thursday, 18 October 2018
Having been luck enough to attend a party at the Kabile Hotel I got the view form the restaurant balcony on the 3rd floor. This is of course the smoking area as smoking is not allowed in the restaurant. (Well at least until 22:00!) You can see Sinbad Fast Food Chain down below still trading at this late hour.

Vibrant colours galore amongst the variety of fruit and vegetable mainly locally produced in Yambol's Bazaar. I often take this as a diverted route on my travels as it is just like walking through a garden.
Tuesday, 16 October 2018
Having been in place for decades, tnis semi decagon cover for Yambol's Bazaar goes unnoticed by many folk. Quite unique in design with supporting poles at each angle it is eyes raised each visit to appreciated the art amongst the busy trading that goes on there.
Monday, 15 October 2018
Having taken this picture once before, it is being shown again with swastika which has been added since. These swastikas have been appearing in random places on an increasing frequency. Shame to distort the beauty and peaceful nature of this mural in Yambol
Sunday, 14 October 2018
Taken from the top of the steps that lead from Rakovski Street, yo can see the Covered Bazaar in Yambol. always a hive of business there. However I do tend to find the prices of fruit and vegetables are higher than my local shop so I don't usually shop there. But I do buy my honey which is better than any supermarket honey.

What use to tbe place for a Bulgarian Jet FIghter Plane is now transformed into a playground. What a contrast in emblems from war to play! If you want to see the original jet it is here: Bulgarian Jet Fighter in Yambol
Friday, 12 October 2018
After extensive renovation and redesign Rakovski Street is now laid with new grass and shrubs nearing completion. Still barred from the public right now it will be a pleasure to stroll the 1 km length of this road when open.

One thing you don't expect is for the Battle of Glory Museum in Yambol to have clothing hanging out to dry. Well the lady who acts as a guide there spends 6 days a week at the museum so I guess it makes sense to make use of work premises with not much time at home.
Tuesday, 9 October 2018
Road sign in Yambol come in a variety of modes. This one is quite common with a cluster of signed nailed to a tree in Yambol. Quite interesting that driver ignore them in the main and not for the reason of a canopy from the tree obscuring the view.
Monday, 8 October 2018
with some chilly nights experienced it was only a matter of time to see the first leaves gathered in piles on the streets of Yambol. A month ahead of industrious work for the street cleaners wo I might add do a fantastic job without the aid of machines.
Sunday, 7 October 2018
Needless to say, Autumn is the time of the grape harvesting so seeing a grape press is a common sight. This one is quite modern compared to many manual machines in Yambol. If not used for wine then rakia will be the result.
Saturday, 6 October 2018
On a warm sunny Autumn day with local fruit ripened it was njo surprise to see this outside on a table waiting for an indulgence. Not just the natural colours of the fruit but the complement of the Bulgaria table cloth it sits on.
Friday, 5 October 2018
A view of the inside of a rakia house in Yambol can be seen here. With different sizes of stills for the distilling this place is very busy in October and November from grapes having been harvested and fermented out. The distinctive smell of rakia lingers throughout the factory.
Thursday, 4 October 2018
Today was rakia making day for me as I attended the local rakia making house in Yambol. Situated in a off the track remote part of Yambol give the feel of a village location. by midday 47 litres of rakia were on the way home to last the year ahead. Yes, it was raining an d didn't stop all day!

Tuesday, 2 October 2018
A walk led me to see a pile of plum stones that had been discarded on the street. A strange thing to see and didn't make much sense. It took a couple of seconds to realise that these were the remnants of plums that had been fermented for rakia making!
Monday, 1 October 2018
you will find this watering hole in Yambol's Bazaar by the old Bus Station. Used by all workers and shoppers, a useful resource in the long hot summers. I've never seen it break down, even in mid-winter.
Sunday, 30 September 2018
A Yambol home is never without one of these sweeping brushes. They are entirely made from natural materials and very effective sweepers used extensively for the home and workplace. From first experience, you can't beat these brushes with anything in the plastic world of cleaning.
Saturday, 29 September 2018
Nothing is wasted in Yambol and recycling and reusing is part of the culture. An example is the sale of secondhand jam jars in Yambol seen today. These may however be third or fourth hand knowing how things work here.
Friday, 28 September 2018
It may be Autumn, a time where nature slows down and looks towards winter retreat, but here in Yambol it is still tine for blooms. Flowers seen blooming in their prime in Autumn is a late treat as I pass by with other plants looking tired.
Thursday, 27 September 2018
07:30 in the morning and the first fog of Autumn greeted me as I made my way to the City Centre. My thoughts were on the possible reports of accidents on the Bulgarian roads on the news which is what normally happens on the first day of fog.

September the 22nd in Bulgaria's Day of celebration of their independence from the Turkish Ottoman Rule. The band turns out each year to play during the formal celebrations that take place at the Museum of Battle Glory. Music makes a big difference to the event.
Tuesday, 25 September 2018
this is a typical swing found in many childrens' playground all over Yambol. No plastic in sight as the materials are metal and wood. Durable and of course looked after and respected by the locals without any vandalism. This particular swing is many decades old and still works as well as it did on the first day.
Monday, 24 September 2018
Cats are all around us in Yambol. Stray cats swarming and there is a very good reason for this. Unlike the stray dogs, the locals feed the cats so they thrive on human help. However, they do keep the mice at bay although the big rats tend to scare them.
Sunday, 23 September 2018
The are hundreds of wild dogs in Yambol. Resting on the streets in during the day and at night you can hear them howling and hunting as some gather in packs. Individually they are harmless, but gathered they are dangerous if you are a vulnerable person or young child.
Friday, 21 September 2018
This is quite common where fruit trees and grapevines are planted outside apartment blocks in Yambol. In this instance it is a fig tree, however besides the figs each year as a bonus I do wonder what is happening to the foundations of the apartment block and whether some serious damage is being inflicted below ground level.
Thursday, 20 September 2018
The simple number 36 painted on a the side of a Yambol apartment block is so unassuming. A grey concrete background with a darker grey coloured number makes it that way. Not meant to stand out in contrast but does enough to be read clearly in a sub camouflaged way.
Wednesday, 19 September 2018
PVC, wood and metal are three types of material used in the build of this unique bench. All recycled I might add Regularly used by locals and typical of DIY benches seen on a daily basis.
Tuesday, 18 September 2018
Monday, 17 September 2018
This caught my eye today. A simple bench that has its address on the back. It don't think it goes anywhere with a return to sender scenario. not quite sure why this is here other than officialdom.
Sunday, 16 September 2018
Outside almost every apartment block in Yambol you will find a communal carpet beater frame. It is commonly used in Spring and Autumn and also has a dual purpose as a gymnastic frame for pull ups for local fit Yambolians.
Saturday, 15 September 2018
You always know when Autumn has arrived when you see bottled gardens in Yambol. With the forecast of slightly cooler nights a very eco friendly and practical ideas that has been going for decades.
Friday, 14 September 2018
This block of cement suddenly appear on a Yambol street. Quite mysterious as to where it came from and how it got there as it is too heavy to lift by hand. Will it still be there later in the year?
Thursday, 13 September 2018
This bland shop front is just typical of failing businesses in Yambol with its falling population and poverty stricken folk. It used to be a thriving colourful business and is now dead. In a prime position I still can't see who would take it up again, people just don't have disposable income. It will get worse if or should I say when the Euro hits Bulgaria.
Wednesday, 12 September 2018
Last summer a fresh juice business stood here, it was called Fresh and was shaped like an orange and it did good business. this year the stand was vacated and all summer it felt like waiting for a brass band to turn up as the position looks like a bandstand. Pity, we enjoyed the smoothies from this former 'Fresh' business.
Tuesday, 11 September 2018
Early Autumn leaves gathered and waiting to collection next to a tree which acts as a compass in Yambol. In case you din't know moss gathers on the North side of trees due to favouring the cold and damp. You can never loose your bearings with trees about.
Monday, 10 September 2018
Hibernation usually takes place in Winter, but for one car in Yambol it happens in the Summer. With the natural cover of low tree branches and a nylon cover, that car sure looks cosy. and of course protected from the searing heat of the summer sun. I did wonder whether the owner owns that garage behind it though!?
Sunday, 9 September 2018
Three workers and a supervisor is all it took to lay down white lines on this new Using a piece of strong to get the line straight works wonders. When finished they can say to folk, "I drew that line!" A deserved party piece.
Saturday, 8 September 2018
It has been a long haul but this Nursery School is finally completed and open for children. The simple but effective bunting surrounding the complex is a nice touch to welcome learners coming into this world.
Friday, 7 September 2018
Now looking like a road, this stretch now has tarmac laid, virgin tarmac only 30 minute old. It was still hot to walk on. This will turn out to be the best road in Yambol when finished.
Thursday, 6 September 2018
All around Yambol you will see this emblem for the Battle of Glory Museum, usually giving directions to the site. Always nice to see road signs hinting a bit of class rather than sterile and uninspired signs that are commonly ignored by drivers.

Monday, 3 September 2018
It is great to see Yambol streets being filled with new trees by the local council. However some people feel that they are not putting enough in so they add their own trees as a supplement. As you can see it is quite obvious which tree planted is the officially and which tree is the unofficial. Love the tyre surround!
Sunday, 2 September 2018
The ever changing scenery of the River Tundzha running through Yambol City Park. Each time the river is seen it has a unique look as the seasons change. Summer of course bring out this wonderful display of bright reflections of the blue sky and tree lined banks.
