A Pint of English John Smiths Bitter in Yambol

this reminds me of a previous life in the UK seeing this pint of English John Smith Bitter poured and tasted in Yambol. Needs a packet of Walkers crisps to accompany it.

An Essentially English Gnome Found in Yambol

Usually found in English backyards and gardens, this gnome was discovered in Yambol not too far from shop that imports them from the UK. This one has been there for quite a while judging from the condition it is in.

English Victoria Sponge Cake in Yambol

You don't expect to find an essentially English Victoria Sponge Cake sitting on a table in Yambol. Well, today there was. A friend decided to try an English cake recipe for me as a guest to try and it passed the test with flying colours!

English Adsa Bag Seen in Yambol

English, Adsa Bag, Yambol,

Sometimes in Yambol, I am reminded fo the UK. This was just another instance when seeing an Asda bag in a shop. Not quite sure if the owners were English though.

Yambol Central Post Office Opening Days and Times in English

Yambol, Central Post Office, Opening Days, Times, English,

Displayed outside Yambol Central Post Office is a big sign giving information with the days and time of opening. It is translated into English and very useful to the many expats and tourists that speak English here in Yambol.

A Simple White Road Bike Parked in Yambol (Ямбол)

A Simple White Road Bike Parked in Yambol (Ямбол)

Parked up in the Centre of Yambol (Ямбол) was something very dear to me. A simple white road bike the only extra is a stand which was n't being used in this case. The Royston is marked on the frame, sound very English but with no record of that it seems as if it is purely a fashion name. Looks the part though!

Internet Connections In Yambol

There was a time not too long ago where there was only a couple of choices of internet services in Yambol. This was one of the original companies that started around 7 years ago. Back then it was so expensive only the rich could afford their charges (not me I might add.) To be quite honest most business was geared around expats with money and reaping profits in from naivety. This is why the ad, (with spelling errors) is in English. However, now they have lots of competition and rates are commensurate to others offering the same. .

Typical Tree Lined Street in Yambol

Quite often walking through Yambol you yearn for some shade from the glaring sun. Many streets provide this shade with the trees that line it. This particular street typifies the hundreds that are around making a summer stroll much more bearable. Mind you being English I'm only one of a few in Yambol who walk in the midday sun, not even mad dogs do that here!

English and Berbartov Football Shirts in Yambol

English and Berbartov Football Shirts in Yambol
There is a new mall of shops that have opened in Yambol, one of these shops sells football related goods. Since Dimitar Berbartov went to Manchester United, the whole of Bulgaria follow him. Football shirts are no exception as we found out when looking around there. Incidentally most of the footballing memorabilia is focused around the English Premiership teams.

All New English Signposts in Yambol

All New English Signposts in Yambol
Since joining the EU, more and more signposts are now in English as well as Bulgarian. I just do not see why this is as Yambol is not really a tourist area. Eventually will it be just English? To me it just isn't necessary and yet another negative from the EU telling Bulgaria that this has to be put in place. After all Bulgarian and its cyrillic text is an official language of the EU, why don't they put Bulgarian cyrillic writings on signposts in the UK? If you are a foreigner living here, learn Bulgarian! If you happen to be a tourist, where will you find adventure of a new culture, including the language?

The Dublin Bar - Yambol

The Dublin Bar - YambolThis is the popular Dublin Bar in Yambol, frequented by many English here, in fact the central meeting point of British expatriates once a month. The reason? The food is mainly deep fried, the staff all speak English and the theme is Irish which is close enough to be a home from for most Brits. A 'Little Britain' right in the heart of Yambol. I personally avoid the place like the plague, for the simple reason I'm in Bulgaria!
