Shumensko parasols were found lined up against a wall in Yambol today. They look very regimental taking a break from sheltering folk drinking beer made from the town of Shumen.
Yambol is not the prettiest City in Bulgaria, but it does have a unique character which is now in the process of being captured by camera. What you see now in Yambol will be short lived in a world of change, especially with the EU strangling the heart and soul of Bulgaria's culture with directives and uniform regulations.

Shumensko Beer Ads In Yambol
You have to believe that this shop sells Shumensko beer event though the seating area outside is for other brands of Bulgarian beers. I must say I was tempted to stop for a bottle of cold beer in this current heat wave we are having as Shumensko is my favourite beer in Bulgaria. By the way the beer is produced in Shumen.

A Grave With Beer Bottles In Yambol
This weekend was a visit to the Yambol cemetery to pay our respects by lighting candles and tidying up relative's graves. One grave I saw was well tended but I was more intrigued by the beer bottles used as vases fot the fresh flowers laid today.

Two Typical Bulgarian Bicycles Parked Up
Another fine example of the types of bicycles that are being ridden around Yambol nowadays. Both with carrier room for vegetables and two litres bottle of beer to be transported home after being bought from the local market. No locks needed as they stand in the middle of a pedestrian walkway. Bulgarian cyclists park bicycles like they park cars -Anywhere. No doubt sitting in a street cafe a few yards away whilst cooling down from their ride.

Zagorka - Тhe Number One Beer In Bulgaria
Nailed to a linden tree right next to an outside eating area is a poster of the famed Zagorka lager beer. You will find many advertisments all around Yambol of this beer. It is considered the number one beer in Bulgaria and Bulgarians are very proud of that, even though people from Heineken own the company which based in Stara Zagora some 50 kilometres from Yambol. The younger generation tend to drink western branded beers such as Becks, Stella Artois and Tuborg, even though Zagorka is 50% less in price and of much better quality. I wonder why? Notice the poster is printed English with various languages, including Bulgarian, of the word 'cheers' above.
