1980s Ceiling Fashion Remain in Yambol

 On a visit to a friend in an apartment block in Yambol, I couldn't help but notice the patterns on the ceiling. These remain as part of the original ceiling when built in the 1980s. The good thing about the ceiling is there is no wear and tear and not being the top apartment no leaks from above.

Cave-Like Fashion Entrance to a Yambol House

The Flintstones come to mind passing this cave-like fashioned entrance in a Yambol House. This solid and stable construction will still be standing for generations to come.

UK Fashion Dominates Yambol Shops

It hasn't gone unnoticed, but in Yambol if you look at the fashion shops you will see that UK stated designs and the Great Britain flag dominates. This of course is reflected on the clothes Yambol people wear who of course buy them. Not sure what I think about that seeing as I wanted to get away from the UK so badly and am reminded frequently of it here. Unfortunately most people here just see the UK through media eyes and not from first hand experience hence the rose tinted glass view.

New Garages Built In Yambol

It seems a strange place to build garages in Yambol, but they are here. I'm not too sure that this particualr project is quite finished with oonly one of the three spaces lockable. This is not a residental area so it may just be for cars to be parked with businesses around. Quite a fashion statement in design and completely out of character of the current environment, namely wasteground.

A Door And Wall In Yambol

A simple wooden door, brink and stone combination wall in a Yambol street. Not fashion at all but a pure build based on the materials that were at hand or the most economical at the time. To me this is accidental art in Yambol.

A Set Of Yambol Rustic Railings

These Yambol rustic railings were found not too far from where I live. It just typifies many of the components of a Yambol house where things are used day in day out as they work very well, but the fashion and façade doesn’t really matter at all. Everything is patched together ad hoc, but remains functional and that’s what is important. I just love this Bulgarian lack of pride in appearance, which after all is based mainly on materialism and one-upmanship.

One Of Yambol's Wedding Shops

There are a few wedding fashion shops in Yambol, but this one is just on the fringe of the city centre. Galia always stops as we walk past as I try and drag her past. Wedding bells? No, just wedding dresses - They are fashion and Galia is a Bulgarian women with a major interest.

New Yambol Shopping Complex

This shopping complex just by the main boulevard just opened a couple of weeks ago. There are countless little shops trading on two floors and the first public escalator in Yambol! From the shops that are there, 90% are selling fashion-based products such as fancy clothing, boots and handbags. A women’s paradise.

Yambol Apartment Block

Just a typical scene of a Yambol block apartments seen from street level. They work and are really expensive in Yambol now. They are in short supply but you wouldn't think living in one of those would appeal unless you are in Bulgaria. Air-conditioning systems seem to be the fashion now with many having already been installed as you can see.
