Periodically we get Gypsies cleaning up the streets of Yambol. Removing stubborn perennial weeds embedded in pavement cracks and general sweeping is all part of the service. Gypsy men come later with a truck on to collect the filled bags you can see in the picture.
Yambol is not the prettiest City in Bulgaria, but it does have a unique character which is now in the process of being captured by camera. What you see now in Yambol will be short lived in a world of change, especially with the EU strangling the heart and soul of Bulgaria's culture with directives and uniform regulations.

A Netted Car Sales Business In Yambol
Across the Yambol road and over the puddle is a car sales business all under netting. A sensible idea as it happens. Not only protection from the strong sun, rain and hailstones, but from the massives of birds that leave their messages from above. A wise investment in view of this but not for the Gypsy car cleaners who are made redundant as a result.

A Yambol Town House Backyard
This picture was sneaking from beyond the garden gate. A simple backyard with an outside seating with no sign of fruit or vegetables growing is has signs of a Gypsy home. The roof with its wavy line takes the attention, but I bet it is water tight.

Yambol Gypsy Bottle Collectors
These two Yambol Gypsies have the hands full with bottles they have scavenged from the big wheelie bins scattered around the city. They will be sold somewhere or used for heating their homes in the slightly chilly evenings. Nothing is wasted here in Yambol, always recycled or used until it drops. Bulgarians would use these bottles for gardening purposes, but the Gypsies just are not green-fingered at all here.

Four Typical But Different Types of Yambol Homes
I chose to take this picture today because it has four distinctly typical, but very different types of Yambol homes, all within 50 metres of each other.- Tucked on the right, just visable with a roof in bad repair is a single floored gypsy house, the smoke from the woodburner was clearly visable at on this cold day.
- On the left is the pink three floored apartment block rather dated now.
- Next to this is a modern seven floored apartment block still being built - These types are so common now in Yambol, they are just cramming apartment block all the time now.
- Then there is the familiar sight of the tall grey apartment block, again, very common and very popular for being so economic on heating in the winter.
