I supposed I must be quite a depressed person to have noticed these particualr paving stones on the streets of Yambol. On the other hand, you have to watch where you are walkiing with the state of the walkways and uneven surfaces that prevail. Needless to say these pretty paving stones are well worth a second look.
Yambol is not the prettiest City in Bulgaria, but it does have a unique character which is now in the process of being captured by camera. What you see now in Yambol will be short lived in a world of change, especially with the EU strangling the heart and soul of Bulgaria's culture with directives and uniform regulations.

The Earth Moving Trees of Yambol
The pavements of Yambol are treacherous and this is caused mainly by trees that grow so vigorously that it dislodges the pavements up to 3 or 4 metres away and impinges into the road splitting up the tarmac surface. This is common not only in Yambol bu throughout the country. We all love the trees and would rather them stay and put up with the uneven walkways, which is one of the characteristics of Yambol.Friday, 25 July 2008
Bulgarian Parking

Talking of pavements and pedestrians, the Bulgarian just don't have a care in the world about where they park, if it convenient for them fine, for others, hard luck. Her is a typical example of a car parked right across the walkway in a residential street. It's there most of the time as close as he can get to his garden gate. This is perfectly acceptable here, no one complains.
