This boundary wall encompassing the Yambol Cadet Barracks is a typical type of brick wall you will see all over the city. This one has a stone base as a foundation but still the is movement in the wall with the earth tremors that this part of the work experience on a regular basis.
Yambol is not the prettiest City in Bulgaria, but it does have a unique character which is now in the process of being captured by camera. What you see now in Yambol will be short lived in a world of change, especially with the EU strangling the heart and soul of Bulgaria's culture with directives and uniform regulations.

A Yambol Security Guards Work Place
Wherever there is a new apartments being built you will find one of these mobile accommodation unit alongside it. It it the temporary home of Yambol security guards who spend the night there as a deterrent. Building material are expensive so the investment in security is well worth the investment.

A Yambol Apartment Exterior Wall Needing TLC
The weather has has its affect on this particular Yambol apartment exterior wall and is in need of some TLC. No money or incentive to repair it seems and April is the best month of the year to render walls, but not action. This of course isn't the only wall in disrepair in Yambol.

An Old Yambol Tyre Repair Shop
Only a stone's throw from the main Yambol hospital is an old tyre repair shop. It has been closed down for a while now and in disrepair itself. Such a shame these little business no longer operate nowadays.

An Old Yambol Overhead Electric Runner For Buses
There was once electric powered buses running in this section of Yambol. I never got to see them although these types of buses are common in other town and cities throughout Bulgaria. As yo can see the remains of the system still are in place. I would be nice to see electric powered buses again with their current diesel fumes blowing out!

Yambol's Army's Emblem
This emblem is fixed the wall on the offices of Yambol's army barracks therefore I presume is the emblem of the Bulgarian army. 1886 is of course the year of Bulgaria's independence from the Ottoman Turks and the picture is of the Bulgarian version of St George slaying the dragon. By the way St George's Day (George Name Day) is on the 6th May and St George is the patron Saint of the Bulgarian Army.

A Yambol Motorcycle With 'Homemade' Metal Pannier
This OMZ motorcycle was seen being ridding in Yambol today. I notice the metal panniers more than anything else they seem to be homemade and stand out. The motorcycle was being revved up fiercely waiting for the green light and when it did turn green, it conked out! I thought this was very funny!

Yambol's Zoomarket Pet Shop
This is one of Yambol's pet shops called Zoomarket. I like the name and the almost amateur style of shop front design. There are thousands of dog lovers in Yambol so business hopefully will always be there for this shop and other pet shops. Having said that most will buy the dog and cat food from big supermarket Kaufland only a five minute walk away as it is cheaper. Such as shame supermarkets kill lots of small businesses like this.

The Seating Area Of Yambol's New Medical Centre
I just couldn't fail to notice this seating area in the newly built and functioning Yambol Medical Centre opposite the new cardiology centre. Once the shrubs have grown a bit more it will be even more attractive and a calm area for sick and visitors.

The Colourful Yambol Bazaar
Spring bring with it much colour and nowhere more than the Yambol Bazaar with all the local produce that has been grown under cover now for sale. Many buyers grow their own but are not ready for picking right now, me included which is why I was there. Lettuce and radish salad tonight!

A Road-wise Yambol Tree
I often put in pictures of Yambol trees, there are so man of them and they all have their uses. This particular one has been used as a road sign and with the tyres at the base of the tree a kind of barrier. the tyres must have been there when the tree was first planted,

A Typical House Design Wall In Yambol
You will see this type of house wall design often in Yambol and in other towns and villages around Bulgaria. It is of course a craft that most here can't afford so only the more wealthy and affluent have craftsmen make it on their properties. Simple, pleasing to the eye and of course durable through the extreme weathers in summer and winter.

A Dented Yambol Street Light
This Yambol street light is normally upright or with a slight slant with the earthquake that frequent and move them on many occasions. This particular one was dented not by natural causes but another source although I'm not too sure what hit is to cause it. Perhaps a lorry, a low flying aeroplane, a muscle bound bee or bird? Whatever caused it the metal decay will commence and it will eventually fall, no doubt before any maintenance arrives!

The Old Entrance To The Yambol Army Barracks
This is the old entrance gates to the Yambol Army base and is as far as I can work out only used by a skeleton staff now. Under NATO cover looking inside the ground it is like a ghost town with derelict building and weed-covered grounds. The gate however seems to be kept in prime condition with the Bulgarian and NATO emblems complimenting each other. Bulgaria became a NATO member in 2004 by the way.

A Local Yambol Street Light
Just a simple street light in Yambol, but an interesting one to me. It has a light sensor at the base to indicate when to switch on and off. This, amongst a fusion of Yambol spring weed growth is respected and not vandalised at all - so refreshing being so vulnerable. Secondly the white plastic light cover has been repair with some masking tape, not doubt by local residents who look after and care fo this public facility. This simple light is a fine example of local community living together with respect for their surrounding and environment.

Broad Beans And Peas Out In Yambol
Outside many apartments blocks on common ground are allotments maintained by the residents. All are respected by a passing public that probably has their own back home. The broad beans and peas in the foreground look particularly healthy and productive in due course. I just can't help stopping and admiring plots like this all around Yambol.

A Yambol Concrete Store
Storing cement is done by making a wooden constructions, this is a typical one place aournd areas where it is needed from renovations and building. I may look rustic and indeed it is but it works very well and of course all reusable afterwards.

A New Tree Planted In Yambol
Last year in the same spot a tree was planted in a crack in the pavement in Yambol. It didn't survive as cars parked on the pavement knocked it over. This year there has been another new tree planted but with a permanent cemented brick surround creating an obstacle for pavement car parkers this year. It remains to see whether this one survive the murdering cars.

A Door And Wall In Yambol
A simple wooden door, brink and stone combination wall in a Yambol street. Not fashion at all but a pure build based on the materials that were at hand or the most economical at the time. To me this is accidental art in Yambol.

A Grave With Beer Bottles In Yambol
This weekend was a visit to the Yambol cemetery to pay our respects by lighting candles and tidying up relative's graves. One grave I saw was well tended but I was more intrigued by the beer bottles used as vases fot the fresh flowers laid today.

Blossom In Yambol
April is the start of the larders beginning to be filled in Yambol. Spring and the blossom is out and the growing season well and truly on its way. All these blossom petals will fall shortly and give way to fruit. Yambol is now out of hibernation and life is all around.

A Sign Of Death In Yambol
This is often seen on gates of Yambol houses. The black material is a sign of death in the family of that house or household. I still feel quite sombre seeing these on a regular basis but it is part of an openness of mourning and celebrating their life in Yambol and Bulgaria

The Yambol City Centre Park Is Full
Yambol city centre park was full of people today as the sun was out and warm weather here at last. There is forecast rain over the weekend so they are all making the most of it this lunchtime. More sun and sitting in the park to come no doubt soon.

Spring Onions For Sale In Yambol
Spring in Yambol and spring onions are in season, you will find them for sale everywhere. This particular sale is taking place on the back of a car parked on the walkway in direct competition with the shop just in front. I never see any conflict in competing trading and none in this instance. They are the same price as the sho9p price by the way so no price undercutting going on.

A Fishing Tackle Shop In Yambol
Generally speaking I don't like going shopping, but there are a few exception to visiting some shops. This is a shop that I find of deep interest. It is a fishing tackle shop and holds a wide range of fishing equipment including live bait and more importantly local knowledge on fishing in the area.

Stocks Of Wood Outside A Yambol House
Just as the spring and the warm weather arrives so does this consignment of wood. No doubt is is cheaper at this time of year and of course will keep and dry out very well for next winter. There is something very reassuring about knowing you have the fuel in stock for the coming winter. Delivery of bulk wood left on the walkways is a common sight in Yambol.

Looking Down Georgi C Rakovski Street In Yambol
This is a view of a pedestrian way named after Georgi C Rakovski and runs right through the centre of Yambol City. Thousands use this path to get to and from work and the shops many living in the apartment blocks that run alongside and at either end of the path. It is such a pleasure to have a place where no vehicles other than prams, bicycles, skates, skateboard and battery powered children's cars roam.
Note:
Georgi C. Rakovski was a 19th-century Bulgarian revolutionary and writer and an important figure of the Bulgarian National Revival and the resistance against Ottoman rule.

A Doctor's Surgery In Yambol
Looking at this Doctor's Surgery in Yambol I found it quite disturbing almost surreal to see various posters reminding us of the passing away of persons. This to me is not a good advert for a Doctor's business. I guess Bulgarian think differently to me when associating health with death.
